Kanye West and Lady Gaga have been confirmed to appear at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25.
MTV made the announcement this afternoon via their social networking sites Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vine.

Seven times seems to be the charm for new father Kanye, who has been celebrating both the June 15 birth of his daughter North West with girlfriend Kim Kardashian and his recently released album Yeezus.
Lady Gaga is slated to debut her new single at the star-studded event, making this one of her first appearances since having hip surgery in February.
The 27-year-old singer, who will release her new album ARTPOP on November 11, sang the national anthem at New York's Gay Pride in June.

Lady Gaga has been avoiding the public eye since calling off her Born This Way Ball world tour to undergo surgery for a labral tear on her right hip earlier this year.
The operation left her temporarily wheelchair-bound.
The blonde singer recently revealed that her new album will visit the pain of her past and dramatically described the moment she handed the first single over to her record label.
In a post on her new website, LittleMonsters.com, Gaga wrote: 'ARTPOP as they pry the single from my bleeding fingers. its a scary thing to revisit those things underneath, the pain in your past. but all I found was raw passion. I thought I was destroyed inside. i'm just ready to fight. start the music.'
Other performers will be announced at a later date but Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the nominations, as they are both up for six awards.
