Revenge stars Emily VanCamp and Barry Sloane share a sweet embrace as they film season three in LA

Alive and well: Barry Sloane and Emily VanCamp filmed scenes for Revenge season three in LA on Friday, putting rumours to rest that Aiden had died at the end of last seasonThey say Revenge is a dish best served cold - which must make filming the show in sunny California a tough gig.

While the ABC drama is set in the seasonal East Coast celebrity summer vacation spot the Hamptons, the show is actually filmed on the more versatile West Coast beaches of LA.

Shooting scenes for the upcoming third season on Friday, Emily VanCamp and Barry Sloane gave fans a thrill as the on-off onscreen couple were reunited.

In one particularly intimate scene, Emily is pictured touching her former flame's bare chest tenderly as he holds his shirt and jacket open - possibly revealing a gunshot wound.

Despite his character, Aiden Mathis, facing a precarious did-he-or-didn't-he-get-killed cliffhanger last season, following an altercation with Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman), the British hunk is clearly alive and kicking - and seemingly back in the arms of the show's protagonist, Emily Thorne.

As TVLine reported last week, the 32-year-old has in fact been upgraded to a series regular after being 'very much a ninja on the periphery' last year, according to the show's writer, Sunil Nayar.
Clearly not appropriately dressed for the beach setting, Barry was wearing dark dress pants, a dark shirt and black jacket, along with black shoes.

His pretty co-star was equally rugged up in dark blue cuffed jeans and a heavy black sweater, although she walked barefoot on the sand during filming, warming up between takes in a toasty pair of Uggs.

She carried a thick book of navigational charts as she filmed several scenes, one of which saw her studying the booklet in great detail as she crouched down by the shoreline.

Co-star Madeleine Stowe, who plays Emily's nemesis, Victoria Grayson, also reportedly joined the pair on set that day.
Following the departure of series creator Mike Kelley at the end of season two, which critics dubbed lacklustre at best, 27-year-old Emily has revealed that season three will see the show get back to basics.
With Sunil at the helm, the new season - which premieres Sunday, September 29 on ABC in the States - refocuses on the original cast.

Speaking to ETonline at the TCA Press Tour All-Star Party on August 4, Emily revealed she is 'excited' about where things are headed.

'[Sunil's] really taking Revenge back to its roots. Old-school take-downs. Emily is fired up,' she enthuses.
After last season wrapped with Emily Thorne revealing her true identity - that of the real Amanda Clarke - to newly-widowed Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler), the control is no longer in her hands.

'That relationship is incredibly tense when we come back. She's been given an ultimatum by Jack... because he's completely uncomfortable with what she's doing. He doesn't want to see anyone else suffer at the hands of her plan, so he gives her a timetable, which makes her put a very specific plan into action,' she explains.
'I can't say what that plan is, but we start the season with a flash-forward of Emily laying in a pool, with blood surrounding her. Later this year, we'll pull back on that shot and you'll see the whole environment - but it could be the beginning of the end for Miss Thorne.'

As for what's in store for Aiden and Emily, viewers will have to wait and see.
However, as Sunil teases to TVLine: 'The stories we told last year barely scratched the surface of what Barry is capable of doing as an actor and what the character is capable of doing on-screen. He has such a rich history with Emily.'

For her part, the gorgeous blonde believes viewers will be satisfied with the new direction the show is taking in really delving into what drives the main characters.

'I think [fans are] going to be really happy we're going back to our roots. We're simplifying,' she says. 'We're trying to play more on the characters' emotions than working in big Initiative storylines with people we don't know. We're honing in on these central characters and watching them brawl ... and along the way, Emily Thorne takes a bullet.'
